You put your Wi-Fi router that you received from your network operator in your bedroom, but the signal isn’t as strong as you thought? In your brother’s room you have to keep your computer almost tacked to the wall to connect to the Wi-Fi. I have some tricks that I think you should try.
If you want to find out how to amplify your wireless signal but, have no desire to buy a range extender, which is one of those little boxes that amplifies the Wi-Fi signal, you should know that there are a couple of ways to achieve the same thing without spending a penny. All you need is a printer, some cardboard and some aluminium foil. Don’t believe us? See for yourself.
Believe it or not, all you need to do to amplify your wireless signal is to create a small “satellite” out of the cardboard and apply it to your router’s antennae. As a first step, just click on the model below and select ‘Save Picture’ as from the menu to save it to your PC. At this point, if your printer supports printing on cardboard (say 210 gsm or on the box the router came in), open the image you just downloaded using any image viewer and print it, then take a pair of scissors and cut out the two figures, trying to be as precise as possible. Otherwise, print the template on plain paper, cut out the two figures, paste the pictures on the cardboard and cut them out.
Once you’ve cut out the two silhouettes, paste a rectangular piece of foil along the back and let it dry for a few minutes. At this point, using scissors, carefully cut six slots on the front of the rectangular template and cut out the crosses on the other template (router’s antennae should go in there). Slot the two templates together, inserting the tabs of one template tightly into in the slots of the rectangular template, and poke the router antenna through the crosses, so that they fit perfectly onto the antenna and so that the foil is behind the router. Now your Wi-Fi signal should be stronger To learn more, visit the website Free Antennas which developed this model.
If you want to find out how to amplify your wireless signal with very little effort and cheaply (indeed, for free), another trick you can try is to use the lid of a shoe box and some tin foil. Armed with scissors, cut the edges of the side fins of the lid, and open them out. Then take the aluminium foil and cover the whole interior of the lid (including the sides) and paste it in.
Leave the glue to dry for a few minutes and then use the scissors to pierce one or two holes in the fin at the base, so it can hold the antenna or antennas for your router. Finally, place the lid covered with foil at the base of the antennae on the router and make sure the part with the foil is pointing towards the antennas to get an instantly boosted Wi-Fi signal.
