Sony Playstation 5 (PS5): Release Date, Specs, and News – Everything we know about and expect from the new generation

Sony PS5PS5 (PlayStation 5) is the name of what we know to be Sony’s next console. It is a next-gen system that will replace the current PS4 and PS4 Pro and that should stick to the now usual console name.

This means that we do not expect Sony to change the console’s name. Although this has not been officially confirmed, we can still be somewhat sure that the next console will be named PS5.

Given that the PS4 is selling like hot cakes despite being over 4 years old and that the PS4 Pro was launched quite recently, it is not unusual for Sony not to be in a rush to talk about the PS5. We know that the console is being developed, and we have a lot of predictions and leaks that gave us a glimpse of some its most important details.

We know that a lot of our readers have their eyes on the PS5, so we wanted to come up with this special article to tell you everything we know about Sony’s new console. Bear in mind that we will combine analyst predictions with leaks. We will also complement the information with our own intuition, so the outcome will be highly likely but not definitive.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501 Gaming Laptop Review (Intel Core i7-7700 + GTX 1080)

1. Introduction and specifications

Gone are the times when a high-performance gaming laptop was oversized and thick, and when its weight could be or exceed 5 kg, making it more of a ‘portable’ desktop PC than an ordinary laptop.

Although they were rarities at first, thin and small gaming laptops are already relatively common. Thanks to the latest releases of more efficient processors and graphics cards enhanced by specific low-consumption designs such as the NVIDIA Max-Q design, we have 1.79 cm thick laptops like this ASUS ROG Zephyrus, a device that can compete against desktop PCs without problems.

AORUS X5 v7 KL4K3D Gaming Latpop Review (i7-7820HK, 32GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD + 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB, 4K display)

Introduction and specifications

When you want to stand out in a market as competitive as the gaming laptops market, doing the same thing that others do is not enough. It is essential to offer some extra feature that the competition lacks, and that is exactly what Gigabyte is looking for with its AORUS lineup, which gives us models such as the new AORUS X5 v7.

When we reviewed the AORUS X7 v6, we realized that AORUS was looking to step up its game on the gaming laptops market by putting emphasis on build quality, compact sizes and reduced thickness, which does not mean reducing costs.

AORUS X5 v7-KL4K3D

This AORUS X5 v7 has a GTX 1070, which is the same graphics card found in its older sibling, and a Kaby Lake processor with an unlocked multiplier in a smaller and slimmer body. Let’s see how well it performs in our tests.

2. Design

The AORUS X5 v7 keeps the same external design rocked by AORUS’ gaming laptops lineup: a fairly sober finish besides having gaming touches, meaning that it has sculpted lines strategically placed. This is not one of those laptops that are so obvious in showing elements of the target audience they are meant for, as it might be perfectly mistaken for a business laptop, which in a lot of cases is something good.

AORUS X5 v7-KL4K3D

The lid is embellished with the AORUS logo. The hinges under the lid are slightly recessed from the case, giving the laptop more room for cooling.

Asus ROG Chimera: new monster with 17.3” and 144 Hz display

  • by

Asus has announced another of those devices that are not suitable for all audiences. This is the new Asus ROG Chimera laptop, a monstrous 17.3-inch gaming laptop that stands out for its screen, with 144 Hz refresh rate and equipped with NVIDIA G-Sync technology to provide the best gaming experience to date.

With the ROG Chimera we should leave aside the term “laptop” and use “mobile game station”, as we have often commented with laptops of these dimensions and weight, and although the manufacturer has not yet specified it, it’s a very large and heavy device that will be difficult to take it from one place to another, or use it on your lap.

Asus ROG Chimera

That said, the Asus ROG Chimera has an Intel Core i7 7820HK with factory overclocking, running at a 4.3 GHz in Boost mode. It is accompanied by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 desktop graphics card, also overclocked to run at 1974 MHz, which will also be responsible for managing the refresh rate of the screen with G-Sync technology. Of course, although Asus has not specified, we understand that the screen, despite having 144 Hz, is IPS, since its response time is 7 ms GtG.

Acer Aspire V 17 Nitro Black VN7-793G-709A/758J and VN7 593G Gaming Laptop Reviews

Acer Aspire V-Nitro 2017

While Acer’s Aspire V-Nitro series isn’t new on the market, it is very popular with consumers which lead Acer to update the range each year. We’ve already reviewed the 2015 line, and now, two years later, we think it’s time to do it again. Optically, not too much has changed, under the hood however, we find Intel’s 7th generation processors, DDR4 RAM and a GeFore GTX10-series GPU.

Acer Aspire V-Nitro 2017

Naturally, I got both models here – the base features among both are mostly identical. The 17” model (VN7-7936-767M) just has some more bells and whistles than the 15” one (VN7-593G-73HP). Let’s take a look at the specs first:

  • VN7-593G Display: 39.6 cm (15.6 “) Acer ComfyView ™ Full-HD IPS Display with LED backlight (matt)
VN7-793G Display: 43.9 cm (17.3 “) Acer ComfyView ™ Full-HD IPS Display with LED backlight (matt)
  • Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 (Full HD), 16: 9
  • Processor: Intel® Core ™ i7-7700HQ processor (4 cores x 2.80 GHz, up to 3.8 GHz Intel Turbo Boost, 6 MB 3rd Level Cache)
  • Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM
  • Memory: 8 GB DDR4
  • Storage: 1,000 GB hard drive
  • Network: Gigabit LAN, wireless LAN 802.11ac / a / b / g / n, 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz, 2 × 2 MU-MIMO
  • Connections: HDMI, 1x USB 3.1 (Type-C Gen. 2, Thunderbolt 3), 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, 1x audio, 1x SD card
  • Input devices: backlit keypad with numeric keypad, multi-gesture touchpad with integrated fingerprint reader
  • Sound: 4 stereo speakers, Optimized Dolby® Audio Premium® Sound Enhancement
  • Battery: Li-Polymer battery (4 cells / 4450 mAh), up to 6 hours battery life
  • Dimensions / Weight: 391 x 266 x 24.9 / 22.5 mm (W x D x H) / 2.6 kg
  • Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 10 Home (64-bit)
  • Special features (only VN7-793G): integrated Tobii Eye Tracking Camera, for viewing in selected games

When it comes to specs, Acer hasn’t been a slouch – with the exception of one aspect: Memory. Both devices only come with an old-fashioned hard drive.  If you want an SSD you will have to add your own. For this, an M.2 PCIe 3.0×4 slot is available so that even a Samsung SSD 960 PRO can fully be taken advantage of. (I’m in UK, in US market, both two models feature SSD)

Summary:

The Acer Aspire VX 15 (VX5-591G-75RM) is midrange gaming laptop that does okay for itself but doesn’t really do anything extremely well to stand out from its competition. To top it off, its minimalist-ish matte black design may not appeal to everyone. Pros:

  • 256GB SSD.
  • Minimalist-ish look for those who want something different and less flashy
  • Responsive and comfortable full-sized keyboard
